The Unit History
The unit was formed on October 31, 1990, formerly named the Ravenna Young Marines. We are the oldest active Young Marines Unit in the State of Ohio. Our Young Marines and Staff come from the area surrounding Ravenna, Ohio - including Portage, Trumbull, Geauga, Summit, Medina, and Stark counties.
Unit Meeting Details
The Chesty Puller Young Marines are under the command of Ronald L. Pownall. The Unit meetings are every Tuesday from 6:30 PM till 9:00 PM at VFW Post #1055 in Ravenna, Ohio (see map below). Our Commitment to Each Young Marine
A Young Marine in good standing has the right to:
1. Attend scheduled unit meetings, events and activities that are purposeful, planned and organized.
2. Meet in a safe, drug and tobacco-free environment under the supervision of registered adults.
3. Be treated with firmness, fairness, dignity & compassion..
4. Have opportunities to succeed and excel.
5. Report any inappropriate action by other Young Marines or adults.
Our Not-for-Profit Status
Our organization operates on dues from our Young Marines, fundraisers, and donations. Our staff are volunteers. We appreciate the effort of everyone that contributes to the financial health of the Unit.
The Young Marines were originally chartered by, and remain a subsidiary of, the Marine Corps League, Inc. The Young Marines shall operate as a not-for-profit organization under Internal Revenue Service Code 501(c)(3), with contributions to the Young Marines being tax deductible by the donor. - From the Young Marines National Website, Young Marine Bylaws.
